Perk up Your Space with the Perfect Accessories!

Eeek! Where do I begin?” This is the question I hear the most when it comes to styling your home to sell… It's a lot to take in when you're getting your home 'show ready' so I wanted to start with some of the little accents that make a big impact on the space. From the rug selections that you choose to the accent pieces that you place on your end tables, there's a method to designing a home that will appeal to the most number of buyers. Designing your home is fun and exciting! Here are my top tips when it comes to choosing the perfect accessories for your space.

Decorative Clusters

You may think that decorative pieces are just placed in the room; however, there's a true method to what goes where and how much of it is in a room. For example, it's always important to use a mix of the following:

  • Metals

  • Texture

  • Greenery

  • Pop of color

When you're clustering your items on a table, keep these elements in mind. My favorite elements to incorporate into a space are coral and shells. Take a look at what's metal, what has texture and what you can take from the yard when you're deciding what items to place on a table. When you do this, you add some depth and life to the space and buyers just can't take their eyes away from your designs.

The Power of Odd Numbers

Another thing I always say is that you never want even numbered clusters. For instance, two items on one side of the table and two on the other. Instead, try for three decorative items on one side and two on the other, and always be sure that these items are never less than six inches apart. The thing is, when decorative items are less than six inches apart, they're then considered knick-knacks, which are more sentimental in nature and should be put away for showings. The goal is to not have your items less than six inches apart here to create that look you want for your space.

Timeless Color Combinations

Brushed gold is hot right now, which is why I'm loving it in a lot of the homes that I'm designing. My favorite thing is intermixing brushed gold with matte black to give that true timeless feel in the space. This works especially well in areas of the home, like the breakfast nook. Don't add too much brushed gold to the space though. It's meant to be an accent feature in the home. And because black will never go out of style, this is the perfect look if you want that timeless appeal in your home.

Rug Selections

Simple is always better when it comes to your rug selections. I always say that if you're going to go with a patterned rug, it should be a large pattern. If the rug pattern is too busy, it limits you on what you can do with the furniture and pillows in the room. So, if you're going with a simple rug, you can do more with the furniture by way of patterns, colors and designs, but if you're going with a busy rug, you'll need to keep your furniture and pillows simple in design.

Accenting Your Space

The right pieces provide the right feel in the space, so don't be afraid to go out of your comfort zone when it comes to choosing accessories for your home. Try elements that you wouldn't normally choose and see how they add a unique feel to the room. Most importantly, enjoy this time and have fun with your choices! Accent your space and create a timeless appeal in the home!
